The Richard G. Wells Rehearsal Hall

Richard G. Wells
The Graduate Organization of Bands along with the Department of Music at Kutztown University is pleased to announce the opportunity to name the new Large Music Rehearsal Hall in honor of Elizabeth J. and Richard G. Wells. This new facility is part of the proposed 20,000 square foot addition to the renovation project of the Nathan Schaeffer Auditorium, scheduled to begin in 2011.

Mr. Wells came to Kutztown University in 1968. He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Music. Hedirec ted the Marching, Concert Jazz Bands, and the instrumental ensembles. He organized the jazz program in 1968. Mr. Wells taught twenty-nine years before retiring in 1997.

Through the years, Mr. Wells has influenced scores of graduates to aspire to excellence in music performance and remain loyal to the ideals and benefits of music and education. Many of the students have continued their association with the University and the Department of Music long after graduation because of the association with the University and the performance organizations led by Mr. Wells.  Today, Mr. Wells is an active alumni and director of the Kutztown University Alumni Jazz Band.

In order to assure the final construction of the Large Music Rehearsal Hall is maintained at 2,500 square feet with a 28 foot ceiling and proper acoustical treatments to handle all aspects of instrumental music   performance, a fundraising campaign goal had to be set at $500,000. To date, we have raised $272,000.  We are hopeful that you will consider supporting this effort through the pledge of a gift that would be spread out over a five-year period of giving.

While the amount of the gift is a decision that comes after careful consideration from each individual  donor, we want to share that any gifts of $5,000 or more will allow for the names of the donors to be placed on a plaque outside of the Richard G. Wells Rehearsal Hall.
If this project touches you to honor the lifelong work of Richard G. Wells as well as help to provide future KU students the opportunity to enjoy a state-of-the-art Music rehearsal facility, we hope you will join those of us who have already made their pledge of financial support. Please go to the University's Website to give online through http://www.give2ku.org.
